In aanloop naar de release van Horizon: Forbidden West brengt ontwikkelaar Guerrilla Games steeds meer trailers naar buiten en gaan ze in interviews dieper in op wat we mogen verwachten. Zo ook Narrative Director Benjamin McCaw.
In gesprek met de Italiaanse website Everyeye laat hij weten dat de game één einde heeft, wel hebben spelers enige invloed op de verhaallijn in de aanloop naar dit punt.

In het interview komt ook schrijfster Annie Kitain aan het woord die in gaat op de reis die Aloy en haar kompanen afleggen richting het westen, een reis die ze langs een geruïneerd San Francisco en de Yosemite Valley brengen. De verhaallijn speelt zich zes maanden na het origineel af en gedurende deze tijd heeft de Red Plague zich over de wereld verspreid.
