Don Mattrick draagt officieel de titel 'president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business', maar wij kennen hem simpelweg als het gezicht van Microsoft presentaties. Mogelijk komt hier binnenkort verandering in.
Het gerucht gaat namelijk dat Mattrick zijn werkgever zal verlaten om als CEO van Zynga aan de slag te gaan. Zynga is vooral verantwoordelijk voor casual titels als Farmville en Zynga Poker. Andere bronnen laten eveneens weten dat Mattrick vertrekt bij Microsoft, echter weten zij te melden dat hij voor Electronic Arts zal gaan werken.
Of de man inderdaad op zal stappen leren we mogelijk al snel, het gerucht weet namelijk te melden dat zijn vertrek na het sluiten van de Amerikaanse markt bekend zal worden gemaakt. Hoewel Mattrick recentelijk veel kritiek kreeg betreffende de Xbox One zou het besluit al enige tijd geleden genomen zijn.
Mattrick werkt sinds 2007 voor Microsoft, ervoor overzag hij de totstandkoming van EA Canada waardoor het mogelijk is dat hij terugkeert op het oude nest.
[Upd.] Het is inmiddels officieel bekend: Mattrick werkt niet langer voor Microsoft en is overgestapt naar Zynga. Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer heeft aan de hand van zijn vertrek onderstaande brief naar al het personeel gestuurd.

Since joining IEB more than six years ago, Don and his team have accomplished much. Xbox Live members grew from 6 million to 48 million. Xbox 360 became the No. 1 selling console in North America the past two years. We introduced Kinect and have sold more than 24 million sensors. We released fantastic games, and, most importantly, we expanded Xbox to go beyond great gaming to deliver all the entertainment people want — sports, music, movies, live television and much more.
In the past month, the IEB team showed for the first time here on our Redmond campus, and again at E3, how we are going to continue to transform entertainment with Xbox One. I am incredibly proud of the work and vision culminating in Xbox One.
I’m particularly excited about how Xbox pushes forward our devices and services transformation by bringing together the best of Microsoft. The consoles are incredible all-in-one devices with built-in services that consumers love, including Bing, Xbox Live, Internet Explorer, SkyDrive and Skype. And, just as important, Xbox Games, Xbox Video, Xbox Music and SmartGlass light up Windows PCs, tablets and phones.
Thank you, Don, for setting us on a path to completely redefine the entertainment industry. The strong leadership team at IEB and their teams are well positioned to deliver the next-generation entertainment console, as well as transformative entertainment experiences, long into the future.

Hij had de uitstraling van een zakenman niets meer niets minder, had persoonlijk niks met hem.
Tja lullig voor hem dat hij met zo'n reputatie de deur uitgaat. Maar deels ook eigen schuld. je doet wat je moet doen en voor een bedrijf, maar als ik in zijn schoenen had gestaan (wat makkelijk praten is) dan had ik ontslag genomen. Zijn eigen imago is er hard op achteruit gegaan.
En je kon zo zien dat het dollar tekentje in zijn ogen stond en niet de consument (naar mijn mening).

Ik hoop dat hij daar even uit de spotlights komt te staan en dat alle negativiteit rondom hem weg zakt. Voor niemand is dat fijn, zelfs niet als je veel geld hebt.

Bevestigd (zie http://www.forbes.com/fdc/welcome_mjx.shtml). Het maakt mij niet uit dat hij naar Zynga gaat. Charismaloze zakenman die altijd oelig over heeft gekomen bij mij. Ben benieuwd wie zijn plek over neemt.
