Nieuws: Sony koopt cloudservice Gaikai

Voorafgaande aan de E3 was er het gerucht dat Sony een samenwerking aan zou kondigen met cloudservice Gaikai, echter bleef het stil. Dat er echter iets speelde tussen de twee blijkt vandaag.
Vandaag leren we namelijk dat Sony Computer Entertainment de cloudservice heeft overgenomen voor een bedrag van ongeveer 380 miljoen dollar. De technologieën zullen gebruikt worden in het Sony netwerk, waarbij ze innovatie en interactieve entertainment aan haar gebruikers aan wil bieden.

Awesome, nu zullen ze dit ook implementeren in hun tvs en blurayspelers. Ook had Gaikai een deal met Samsung, dus heeft Sony meteen ook Samsung als partner. Zal me niet verbazen mochten er volgend jaar PlayStation certified TVs uitkomen.
Nieuwe naam: PlayStation Cloud? PlayStation Universe?

Dan is de PS3 dus de laatste echte gameconsole van Sony. Voor de E3 werd er dit gezegd:
Sony was quick to shoot down rumors that a PS4 would be announced at this year's E3, but things just got a lot more interesting all of a sudden, as cloud gaming service Gaikai has commented that one of the current console manufacturers actually won't be creating another console for the next generation. Speaking during CES [Update: here's coverage of the full panel she was on], Nanea Reeves, chief product officer for Gaikai, predicted, "Not all of the current console makers will have one more generation. That will be the big news at E3."
De deal was op de E3 blijkbaar nog niet rond, maar is dat nu wel.

Er zal sowieso nog een generatie consoles komen. Cloudgaming is nog lang niet klaar om een hele console te dragen. Verder zal Sony ook dom zijn om geen console uit te brengen die fysieke media ondersteunt. Cloudservice zal wel sterk aanwezig zijn in de volgende jaren in Sony-aparaten.

Het internet is voor veel mensen ook nog niet snel genoeg voor cloud gaming. Misschien dat dit de levensduur van de PS3 wat oprekt, maar een PS4 zal er vast wel komen.
