Hoewel niet probleemloos heeft Microsoft met de Xbox 360 aangetoond dat het zeker niet onmogelijk is om een wereldwijde launch van een console te verzorgen. Sony lukt het met de PlayStation 3 helaas niet.
Hoewel ze eigenlijk ten doel hadden om ook Europeanen al dit jaar van de console te voorzien werd dit uitgesteld naar maart 2007. In een interview met het Official PlayStation Magazine had Phil Harrison, baas van Sony Worldwide Studios, echter het volgende te melden:

"Given that all of our previous statements about launching in Europe simultaneously with the US and Japan turned out not to be the case, I would not like to make any definitive statements on that."

"It's not my job to comment on hardware supply issues other than to say some very smart people are working very hard to catch up."
[...]
"In fact, the ramp up is already starting to happen in supply and output, just obviously too late for us to have launched in Europe at the same times as the US."
Hoewel er nog geen vuiltje aan de lucht lijkt is de uitspraak op zijn minst opvallend te noemen.
