Sony heeft veel vertrouwen in de Blu-Ray en bouwt dan ook een standaard drive in bij de PlayStation 3. Microsoft voelt echter meer voor de HD DVD en doet het dus met een externe lezer voor dit formaat.
Enkele dagen geleden gaf Peter Moore aan dat een externe Blu-Ray speler voor de Xbox 360 tot de mogelijkheden behoort wanneer dit nodig zou zijn.
Deze woorden lijken nu echter weer tegengesproken te worden. In een uitgebracht statement gaan ze namelijk tegen de woorden van Moore in en zeggen ze absoluut geen plannen te hebben om een ander format dan de HD DVD te ondersteunen.
