De PlayStation Portable als multifunctionele, hippe gadget, zo probeert Sony haar nieuwe handheld neer te zetten. Met functies als een afspeelfunctie voor films en een webbrowser zijn er veel dingen mogelijk, maar Sony wil meer.
Zo zou Sony bezig zijn met een camera voor de PlayStation Portable. Dit komt voort uit een interview dat Famitsu hield met Izumi Kawanishi, de SCE Software Platform Development chef bij Sony Japan. De camera zal dan onder andere gebruikt voor video messaging.
Zijn letterlijke woorden:
'We're currently considering the implementation of an e-mail system, but we want to think over the fundamental concept behind e-mail. We think it would be great if people could communicate together with the use of video and voice.'
In de toekomst zou het dus mogelijk zijn om op hotspots met elkaar te communiceren via Video-Messaging.
