Sinds enige tijd heeft Codemasters de Formule 1 franchise in handen, waarbij ze naast een sterke realiteit tevens trachten te innoveren, bijvoorbeeld middels de Champions Mode.
In deze mode dien je het als speler op te nemen tegen de zes FIA kampioenen in een serie van uitdagende scenario's. Doel is om achtereenvolgens Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso en Michael Schumachter te verslaan, waarbij een ieder zijn eigen race scenario heeft die je dient te voltooien om de volgende uitdaging vrij te spelen.
