Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom speelt zich kort na Breath of the Wild af

Deze week is het dan eindelijk zover en kunnen we aan de slag met The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo is zelfs zo enthousiast over de aankomende release dat ze een artikel al wat te vroeg online hebben gezet.
Het artikel, dat uiteindelijk hier te vinden zal zijn, werd kort na het publiceren offline gehaald, maar niet snel genoeg om alvast wat informatie uit te halen.
In een interview heeft producer Eiji Aonuma aangegeven dat Tears of the Kingdom zich kort na de gebeurtenissen van Breath of the Wild afspeelt. Eén van de vragen die het ontwikkelteam zich stelde was hoe ze spelers opnieuw in Hyrule konden trekken na het einde van de eerste game. Hoewel de setting uiteindelijk onveranderd is hebben ze zich wel gefocust op het uitbreiden van de gameplay, zo legt technical director Takuhiro Dohta uit:
quote:"In contrast, we made some fairly big changes to the gameplay. In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, if players wanted to travel from the sky to the ground, they had to select it from the map, but in this game, you can dive from the sky directly to the ground without any interruption.
On top of that, players can also ride on flying vehicles and so on, offering even more freedom within the same setting as the previous game. If a location were completely unfamiliar to you, you'd probably be hesitant to dive down from the sky, but because it's a world that you've already explored in the previous game, these transportation methods make sense.
Being able to dive from the sky to the surface and into a pond seamlessly in this title sure does feel exhilarating. It truly feels like an open-air game this time around."
De mogelijkheid om te duiken werd sterk ondersteunt door game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, die al met iets soortgelijks wilde komen sinds The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Volgens hem geeft dit niet alleen meer gevoel van vrijheid, het stelt spelers ook in staat om van bovenaf informatie te vergaren over wat er onder hen gebeurt.
