In 2007 scoorde Infinity Wards Call of Duty 4 sterk, de game scoorde hoog en verkocht zeer goed. Activision hoopt het succes van Call of Duty 4 te herhalen met Call of Duty: World at War. Dit Treyarch spel verplaatst ons naar Azië en Rusland tijdens Wereldoorlog II.
Activision heeft enkele belangrijke acteurs ingehuurd om mee te spelen in Call of Duty: World at War. Eén van die acteurs is Kiefer Sutherland, de hoofdrolspeler uit 24.
