Eind 2008 kondigde BioWare aan dat het de Knights of The Old Republic franchise zou voortzetten met een MMORPG, genaamd Star Wars: The Old Republic. Star Wars The Old Republic speelt zich 300 jaar na de gebeurtenissen van Knights of The Old Republic II af.
Terwijl de game pas na 31 maart 2011 moet verschijnen, had BioWare de fans beloofd dat ze enorm veel hadden om naar uit te kijken in 2010. En de ontwikkelaar is zijn belofte tot nu toe nagekomen. En ook vandaag komen ze met nieuwe informatie. Op de officiële website onthullen ze de nieuwste planeet die je zal gaan kunnen bezoeken in de game: Taris. Deze planeet zat ook al in de eerste Knights of The Old Republic en speelde een grote rol.

Bands of horrific rakghouls – abominations created by Sith alchemy – ravage the planet’s surface. Each vicious attack carries the chance of transforming the victim into a diseased monstrosity. There are scattered reports that some of these rakghouls are evolving bizarre, freakish powers.
Determined to overcome the challenges, Republic and Jedi leaders are moving forward with the efforts at colonization. Rebuilding what the Sith destroyed 300 years ago would be a monumental symbolic victory, showing the galaxy that the Sith are not to be feared. But the Empire has no intention of allowing such a significant achievement.
Kort gezegd, Taris is een post-apocalyptische planeet die drie eeuwen geleden is verlaten. Maar de rest van het heelal is Taris niet vergeten. De Republiek is sinds korte tijd bezig om de planeet weer op te bouwen maar velen geloven dat deze heropbouw in een catastrofe zal eindigen. Diep in de vroegere Undercity van Taris evolueren de vroeger onschuldige dieren naar bloeddorstige monsters. Toch geloven de Jedi en de Republiek dat hun doel om de planeet te koloniseren zal slagen. Ze willen van de planeet een symbool maken, dit tegen de zin van de Sith en hun rijk.
