EGM: Jak II experimented with mixing free roaming with platforming gameplay. Do you think that kind of mix worked for Jak II? Would that work in the Ratchet world?
Price: Well, we definitely have some free-roaming gameplay. We don't have a big city that you can drive around in, but we do have a couple of large levels that you can... well, drive around in, actually. (laughs) The big desert level, and the big winter tundra level, are two exploratory levels where you can take a mine cart and dig up Raritanium, collecting crystals and killing all sorts of enemies along the way. There is no linear path through these sections, so I think that yes, it's definitely possible.
I think the challenge is balancing that type of gameplay with more directed sections so that players don't feel lost. That's why we didn't do it frequently in Going Commando. We wanted to give players a taste of exploratory gameplay, but we didn't want to leave them scratching their heads 90 percent of the time, wondering to themselves "What am I supposed to do next?"
EGM: Will we see Ratchet & Clank 3, then?
Price: I can't tell you that yet. (laughs)
