Jaarlijks reikt Sony Computer Entertainment Japan hun PlayStation Awards uit, prijzen die bedoeld zijn voor de best verkopende PlayStation games in Japan. Dit weekend werden de prijzen uitgereikt voor december 2011 tot november 2012.
Het achttiende jaar was duidelijk niet het beste voor Japan, voor het eerst in achttien jaar werd er geen Platinum Award uitgereikt. Dit betekent dat geen enkele game meer dan één miljoen keer werd verscheept. Daarnaast konden ook de gamers stemmen voor welke games zij het leukst vonden.
